Tulane For Every Body

Learning to love our authentic bodies

So, what is TU4EB all about?

Goal

Create a campus environment that supports students’ relationships with their bodies.

Mission

Tulane for Every Body is a student-led and staff-supervised initiative at Tulane University aimed at bringing awareness and advocating for the inclusion, acceptance, and support of all people regardless of body size and shape. Today’s society is infiltrated with messages surrounding food, body, and size, and rather than focusing on these superficial aspects of ourselves, the focus of this group is to draw attention to our true, authentic selves in a manner that steers away from our bodies and towards the qualities that make us valuable people.

Vision

Our vision is to hold space for conversation around health, body image, and size in a safe and welcoming space, while introducing the tools necessary to implement body respect and self-compassion practices in the everyday lives of students. Tulane for Every Body runs regular workshop sessions, events, and projects that dive deep into personal experiences surrounding these issues. Our goal is to encourage others to embrace all aspects of themselves in a society that tells them they are never enough.

Values

  • Body Respect
  • Self-Compassion
  • Authenticity
  • Intuitive Living
  • Introspection

We are people, not bodies

We are all people living in this world,

Not bodies living in this world.

We are all people thinking creatively.

Not bodies thinking creatively.

We are all people accomplishing out goals,

Not bodies accomplishing our goals.

We are more than just our bodies.

We are strong, loving, and beautiful people,

Living in this world…

Thinking creatively…

Accomplishing our goals….

And we deserve to love our authentic selves.

Choose to love.

Choose to live.

Choose to be free.

Hey I’m Sarah and I am really looking forward to this year’s opportunities. I hope to bring more confidence to those who lack it. Hey I’m Nyla and I’m so grateful to be a part of the executive board for TU4EB. I hope that this year we can continue to raise awareness for those who have difficult relationships with food and try to create a safe space for people who have struggled with their eating and/or body image. I look forward to all of the events this coming school year and using personal experience to help people who have struggled.

Hey y'all, I'm Caroline and I am a current junior studying Biochemistry and Spanish here at Tulane. I'm originally from Westford, Massachusetts where I live with my parents, older brother, younger sister, dog, and six chickens! In my free time, I love to weightlift, practice yoga, write poetry, and spend time with friends. I have a passion for changing the stigma around mental health, especially involving disordered eating.

As someone in recovery, I have become extremely passionate about this work because of how fortunate I have been to have met the most amazing, awe-inspiring people going through similar journeys. I hold them close to my heart and I have made it my life's goal to do as much as I can to support them and to change the system that has repeatedly failed us. This group offers me both; I am able to support those I care about through this incredible body-positive curriculum and I am offered the space to ignite change in our community.
